Attention Gmail users! More than 2 billion users of the world’s most popular email platform will find themselves at a crossroads and must make a major decision. Two upcoming changes to be aware of:
- AI Integration – Google announced it is rolling out new artificial intelligence (AI) features that can help people manage their email. These include tools that summarize messages, suggest what to write and highlight important items in a user’s inbox. Some of these tools were only available to paying customers before but are now being offered more widely. One of the biggest additions is an “AI Inbox” that can organize messages and suggest actions, such as replying or scheduling appointments. The AI tools are meant to make Gmail feel more like a personal assistant that helps users stay on top of their inbox.
- Updated Email Address – Google now gives users the option to change their primary Gmail address without changing to a new account. Even if you choose to change your primary Gmail address, users are able to keep all their data while the old email address still works. Think of this as a way to start over, especially if you’re still using your old email address from high school or college, or if you have an embarrassing email address you wished never existed and wanted to change.
What You Should Do
Lots to think about! These upgrades are not available yet. Google says it will continue to add improvements this year, and users should watch for more updates in settings as features become available. The company encourages people to review their privacy and security options before choosing the new tools.
